Hey Everyone!
so I am getting a new 55 gallon tank and i want to make it an african cichlid tank.
My question is on what types to put together, for a beginner should i have an all male peacock tank, or  male and female (with proper ratios) mbuna tank.  can anyone suggest a great stocking list for one of those? Any further information would be greatly appreciated :)

well i mostly have 2 pair of cichlids 1 pair of acei and 1 pair of Green Terrors well i would suggest you buy both male and female not only male or you will lose fish and buy different speceis i think you fit in your tank around 6-7 cichlids medium size 6-10cm

You shouldnt mix fish from diff lakes like the above. You could get about 20 fish for your tank. Shame the malawi guys have seem to gone awol. cheers

mbuna are easy to start with, just pick species that are on the lower end of the aggression scale. avoid kenyi, auratus, and crabro for a tank your size. look at the link below and choose three species that you like and are able to find. get a ratio of 1 male and 3-4 females, for a total of 12-16 fish. if you want the all male peacock tank pick around 8 fish, no look alikes. with the peacocks even if you get fish that look completely different you may end having to switch out fish because someone doesnt get along.
