Hi,

I just purchased a new 115 gallon tank. I am building a stand for it and was wondering should I build my own filter system?

I am hoping to breed some discus and lighten my maintenance load if at all possible. Does anyone have any suggestions? DIY plans? or anything else to help me?

Thanks,

Shalom

If I was planning on discus I would be getting a filter that I know is reliable and works well, like a canister filter or so forth. Don't know if a canister is the best option, but probably a good one. The fish are expensive enough not to take chances with I suppose.

All depends on how good of a builder you are and if you know of what needs to be done to have an effective long lasting filter.

Hi,

Sorry but this site never seems to send email notificaitons.

This is my third tank. I really can't afford the 300 dollars for a fluval and was hoping that creating my own filter might be better anyways. I was also looking at the penguin filters. They are much cheaper... Are they effective?

If a sump could be made without drilling this also might be feasible.

If anyone has instructions or ideas that would be great!

Thanks,

Shalom
