Okay so I have a 190L venizia and I had a 60 L running.

I am now using my 60 L filter in with my fluval 205 on the 190 Liter and running a fish in cycle. Before this becomes a thread trolling the fish in cycle and how I should of fishless cycled I know the implications of both and due to time restraints I can not afford to do the fishless cycle. I am aware of the maintenance for a fish in cycle and also I have briefed my wife up accordingly should it not be done by the time I go. :good: She is happy with the maintenance during and once it becomes set up.

My question is this. With an established filter, even though it is small, how long theoretically should it take cycle my fluval 205 filter up so I can remove the small filter and restart my 60 L tank with shrimp?

I will be testing daily as I have only just put the fish and established filter on about 20 minutes ago.

Any ideas would be appreciated even though no one can say a definate as it is watch the results and suck it and see.

Why not put 3/4 of the mature meda in the 205 and then replace some new into the small filter
The small one should handle the shrimp bio load
And the fluval should just about handle the new tank as long as you don't add any more live stock for a week or so then add a few at a time
Hope this makes sense :)

You mean cut my mature media and add it in?

The fluval has several large sponges before travelling up 3 compartments of media. I have lower carbon and middle and upper the chalk cylinders (there name eludes me)

The small filter is 3 small media.

Yep get 2 of the old media and put it in with the round noodle bio media in the fluval
Remember only move the little filter to the shrimp tank when it has shrimp in or all the good bacteria will die

Yeah I will have a look and see if it will fit in the canisters.

If so I will do that =] How long should I leave them in there for then?

Forever if you want or take em out after 6 months
Just replace the space with more noodles and keep check of your water stats
