So, located me a 4 ft tank :)

excited at the thought of starting a new tank after around 5 years absence.

Does anyone know which fish are good choices to start with?

There are so many! Probably easier to list the ones to avoid :)

Steer clear of; common plecs and Gibbiceps, silver/bala sharks, Dennison/torpedo barbs, oscars, angels, Rift valley cichlids, all kinds of non-fish like lobsters, crayfish and frogs, puffers, discus.

Good choices are large shoals of any of the small (under two or threee inches as adults) barbs, rasboras or tetras. Most of the fin-nippers in those families are the deeper-bodied ones.

Hope that gives you somewhere to start :good:

Most fish will probably be ok if you're fishless cycling.

Zebra danios are the hardiest fish I know I started with them in my first tank, about 3 years ago and there still happy as.

Rummy nose tetras are nice, very active and shoal well. Neons are nice but sensitive to newer tanks. I love my harlequins. Corys are a good choice if you go for sand!

Also avoid clown loaches !!

#41####...forgot about clown loaches! Definitely one to avoid :good:

thankyou! I just remember last time i set up, the guy in the shop basically only showed me platys! Ignored most other fish. Why would that have been? Just because Platys are the easiest to start with?

I guess they could be seen as an easy and popular fish tbh. As said though Danios are good hardy fish, my 2 have been with me right from the word go through all the mistakes!

Are you fishless cycling?

Ive read many an articles! However I find reading many an articles uncovers more things Im worried about, which means I have to read more articles!

Haha thats always the way! The guide here doesn't seem to have failed anyone so I would follow that! Any Q's and people are more than happy to answer!!!
