New Tank?

hi, i want a new tank and not sure what to get.
i have about £450-500 to set up the tank.
i am very tempted by marine but not sure
the costs involved also i know its alot of work
so would probably get rid of one of my topical tanks.
or i would buy a large 300+ liter tank and
have a large tropical community or species tank.
any ideas?

If you're already thinking about marine then chances are that eventually you will want to go down that road. It might be worth holding on to your cash and doing a shed load of research about keeping marines before taking the plunge.

If it was me and I had the room, I would be looking at getting the biggest tank I had space for and keeping it freshwater. Second hand of course. And I'd stock it with stuff like Bala Sharks, Tinfoil Barbs, Denisons, etc etc.

i would like to start marine now but i only have 8 months fish keeping experiance so would probebly need alot more.
i was looking at an amazon 300L and stand for £350 new and think that is reasonable. i think marine is just abot to far away and expensive for me at the min.

I can't remember the sizes but I am sure a marine setup, even a small one costs at least £800 to set up.

Could be wrong though. The thing about marine is that the coral costs a fortune, but I have heard the even though the initial setup is expensive the maintenance costs are less than that of a fresh water set up. But thats just what I have heard not what I know.

For the money you have, you could get quite a minted fresh water set up. plenty of tanks second hand that are in great nick to be had

thanks i know ive been reading up abit and it says £800+ and £20 monthly so think i might save up and make sure i have a job before i take the plunge. i think a large tropical community tank is the way forward for now.

Let me echo this.

A dark-substrate and backed tank with bright green plants and filled with pretty little shoaling fish and a few bigger cheery Barbs and Denisons is the way to go. Shoaling fish are just ultimate peace and watchability.

Go with Denisons, Cardinals, small angels (not sure what they are called) celestial rasbora, various tetra/danio and cherry barbs.
