im getting a 37 gallon soon and i just want to know if im going to put gouramis and cichlids do they go together? also could someone point me in the right direction as to what kinds to get, how many and also how to setup the tank because i know cichlids are territorial not sure about the gouramis and caves and stuff?

I think some gourami's and cichlids can work together. Best to decide which fish you really want to keep, then fellow posters can advise tankmates..If it was me I would probably do a convict/sajica/cutteri etc (CA) pair with a few dithers (not gourami's, but rainbow's, tetra's etc) and BN/cories. Taking this option, one problem you'll come across is what to do with the fry?

i used to have 3 pearl gouramis with my cichlids no probs. ( sevs acara jade eyeds etc ) altho i have got a large tank so there was plenty of territory. maye you would be best going for something like a pair of sajicas with some preacox rainbows and a group of corys.

nice colourful rainbows gorgeous cihlids and some bottom dwellers.

See I had 1 opaline gourami that my keyhole killed. The opaline just could not hang with my keyhole being pushy so she got stressed out and died. :( They were in a 36gal. So every fish is different. I personaly would not mix gouramis with cichlids well maybe With rams but that is it.
