right, so i've wanted blind cave fish for a while now and since i had the money, i went out yesterday and bought a new tank. i didn't get the one i wanted because when i got there and looked at the tank in question it was waay too small (25l) so i bought a bigger one and for the first time, i've bought all the gubbins for it separately (my first tank was all included) so i'm quite proud of myself. i've got an elite stingray 15 filter, are they any good? haven't got a tank lid but that's a work in progress and any suggestions on that would be much appreciated. it's the same size as my other and eventually it's having blind cave fish in it. the measurements are 24x15x12, it's 14.81gal or 67.32l and i'm SO excited. i set it up last night and put the sand in and stuff but i haven't filled it yet. hopefully going out today to get aquarium glue, slate and maybe a nice piece of bogwood if my father will pay :)

so that's about it so far, i'll post photos when i can find the lead for my camera.

found it :D

boiled it, but that was taken this morning so it's dryed overnight. :)

it's still damp at the back though.

Oh Oki just wondered :D, Good luck with the set up :good:

Did you buy the tank from a store? Craiglist.org has great deals for used aquariums. I have seen 30 gallon tanks with everything including the stand for $100.

Have read some buy glass from a glass shop. One said they had plastic hindges. I haven't found them yet.

What kind of lighting will you have for the plants?

What are the plants you have? I like them.

yeah i did get it from a store but it worked out about the same to get my tank and buy filters etc separately than to get the 25l with everything included. i haven't got any plants in my new tank yet and i don't know if i'm actually going to have any because they don't have them in caves but in my other tank, i have no idea. i have swordtails i think and some fan one but i don't know what it's called and they change monthly cos i either get bored or they die. and as for lighting, i'm going to buy a marine night tube and use that :)

yeaay!
my mum's letting me use her pans to boil stuff so at least it'll get done properly. :good:
on the downside, i've gotta get all the sand out. joy.

bought some rocks and my brother's given me some slate from his rock collection (he's really cool) so they've been scrubbed to within an inch of their lives and are currently being boiled.
will post pictures when they're done :) they're really nice actually.
hoping to put water in tonight cos i want to get my platies in before i go on holiday.

thanks :)

Great tank idea! I wanted to do that when I first really got into fish with an empty 20 gallon, but never got around to it. Keep updating this thread!

I know what you mean about buying everything yourself. When I bought my 125 gallon, it was the first tank that I actually bought everything on my own with my own money. It's a great feeling and it makes the tank and the fish inside it exceptionally special. :)

what colour should i paint the back?
i was thinking black, or should i get a background. i want a dark one that shows off the fish (which will be white)
also does anyone know anywhere that sells big pieces of slate cheaply in the UK?
i want a wall kinda thing with hidey-holes for my fishies :D

my brother has just had the greatest idea ever but i wanna verify it with people before i go ahead with it in case they get cancer or summat.
he said i should get a UV light instead of the marine night light.
what do people think? like, would they die or should i get both or just the marine one or what?

also do i need to buy an air pump? cos i don't know if my filter already does that.

thanks

i put the dechlorinater stuff in and the water's gone cloudy.
normal or should i gut it and fill it again?
thanks.
