New Tank Syndrome

i have had my tiger oscer in his own tank for a year now with no problems. i did his regular water change on monday then noticed his water was slightly milky on thursday morning 7am! went bk to the tank at 10 am and the water was really milky do did a 50% water change in the hope it would all come clear! but once again this morning the water was mily again so did another 50%water chage. phoned my local pet shop(who are very good and really care for the animals).they said it sounded like new tank synodrome.they advised me to keep a close eye on my oscar and if he starts comeig to the top looks like he is gasping for air do small water changes! but im so woried i dont want to lose my my little guy ! is there anything else i can do to help clear this up!

Stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate,and ph.
Sounds like to me the filter might not be coping with him, how many gallons is the tank, and what filter is it how many gallons of water does it turn over an hour.

getting water checked asap!i dont have my own kit!so get it checked at my loacl pet store.
but i do regular water changes!25% every 2/3 days! tank is a 3ft wide 21 inch high? sprry dont know howmnay gallons! i have 2 pumps in the 1 flaval4 and 1 aqua flow 3!.
after the water change today the water has mostly cleard!.
sorry i cant suply much info! but any advice would greatly be appriciated.

How many gallons is the tank? It maybe to small. Can you measure it, I can figure out how many gallons it is if you tell me the dimensions.

it is 3foot long 21 inch high and 18 inch wide.

Wow I just calculated that and it says its a 22 gallon tank! That is way to small for a oscar. And that is probably the reason it is cloudy. You will have to sell him, you cant keep him cause he would get wider than the tank! He will be miserable. Hope this helped you.

But if you are willing to get him a bigger tank than you will have to get a 75 gallon tank or larger.

thankyou so much for the info. the caculater says my tanks holds 56 gallons!.
which im guessing is too small for him? i will have to get a new bigger tank up and running asap then change him over. is there anything i can do to make the ater clear in ther mean time while i get the new tank ready!thank you so much

How big is he.
Sounds like the fitlers are not up to the job, how many gallons is that aqua three for, as i would invest in another filter.

he is roughly 10inch long from mouth to bk fin! he has grown a lot since i got him!
i am going to get a new bigger tank and new filters asap.im just hopeing he will be ok
till the new tank is ready which is probbaly going to be a few weeks with the time
it will take to set up and do a cycle. is there anything more i can do for him while the new tank is ready!

Buy the tank, just add every thing from the old tank, substrate, water and run the filters with the new one.
You could maybe for now go to the lfs and find a decent filter for the tank.

It's good that you're getting a new tank for him. He'll be happy. Also, just a side note, when your water is cloudy it is because your tank is cycling or in your case the bio filter can't handle the load and is creating a bacterial bloom in the water because they don't have enough surface area in you're filter to all colonize.

Get yourself a external filter it will save space in your new set-up and is easier to clean i have 2 eheim
eccos, i even run 1 in a Reef One Orb set up because the filter system is rubbish ,which is supplied.
