New Tank Ideas!

just bought a new tank. its 130 litres 36x18x12

any ideas on what to do with it

Only joking, what type of thing do you like ? Wood, rock, gravel, sand, plants etc ?

What do you already have ?

GO WILD, but plan it first lol!! With mine, i just put a bubble wall at the back of the tank, along with some fairly tall plants. Then i put a piece of bog-wood in the foreground. I am slowly going to build up plants and things though, but one thing i cant stand is a tank, stuffed full of stuff!! lol Good luck with your tank

Well depending on how much money you have, you could always go for black sand. There was a topic on it the other day and although it might be slightly more expensive than normal gravel/sand, black sand does look good. Would you prefer to use rocks or wood? Because depending on which decor you choose the type of plants maybe slightly different. I personally think that if you go for rocks, you should use smaller plants to make a carpet effect and if you have wood you can get taller plants to give a more built up tank. But thats just me and the ideas I have in my head so that won't apply to all tanks/most people.

Saying that, just plan it and I'm sure it will look amazing. I always look at other peoples tanks to get ideas if that helps at all.

I dont know I like to decide on the fish before I plan on the tank decor lol, been looking at some nice angels in my LFS. its all to exciting though haha I can't make my mind up like a kid in a sweet shop.

I've got a nice mature planted tank, only 15 gallon or so, with a few leopard danios and tetras.

A follow up on "going wild".
My own personal preference is for a single species of wild type fish. I specialize in wild type livebearers and really focus on the endangered and threatened species of them. Where that places me is that I can never find the fish that I want in my LFS. Instead I end up going to club auctions and similar locations to find my fish. Lately I have become as much a supplier as a buyer for rare fish but that is fine. Any fish that is having difficulties in the wild needs a dedicated group of breeders who are maintaining them. All club purchases are made by people who understand what it takes to care for fish, so I feel pretty good about passing along my surplus fish that way. The more people who maintain a particular species of otherwise threatened fish, the less likely it is to be completely lost.
My own focus is the group called goodeids. Almost all of that group is either endangered or threatened but in general they are easy care fish that breed readily. OK so what makes such easy fish endangered? The answer is both simple and depressing. These prolific fish are endangered or threatened by the simple fact that they exist in waters that are needed for irrigation. In the end people will use their creeks and rivers to irrigate crops for people and won't care about the impacts on trivial fish that have no economic value. That means no water left for the fish to swim and breed in, thus they are endangered.

lol i've been keeping tropicals for a few years now. i've been to the lfs today been looking at a lovely albino oscar, tiny. I don't know what it is i just love these fish!!!

Low tech, heavily planted setup with half a dozen dwarf puffers is probably what I would do. You won't find any fish with a higher amount of personality per inch!
