Hi i've had some great advise when starting my new tank and it seems to be running well and all the fish seem happy.

I have been given a brand new juwel rio 240 with cabinet by a relative who received it as an unwanted wedding gift.
the tank has been fishless cycling for 4 weeks now and something strange seems to be happening.

up until last week the tank was cycling 5ppm of ammonia in 9 hours and 5ppm of nitrite in 15. All of a sudden it is taking 15 hours to process both.

Tank temp is a constant 26 on the thermometer and the only fiddling I do is 10% daily water changes as suggested here using seachem prime at the correct doseage. any ideas?

Thanks.

How often are you dosing ammonia now?

You say you are fishless cycling but also mention the fish are doing well. Explain this for me?

Two separate tanks, one with fish doing well, and the Rio in a fishless cycle.

2 tanks one cycled one cycling.

dosing ammonia back up to 5ppm when it drops down to 0.25ppm using an API master kit

You should only redose once every 24 hours. Test every 12 dose at the same time every 24 hours.

Once you get Zero's at 12 it's fish time.

Try dropping the dose down to 3ppm. Then, when you're processing ammonia and nitrite to 0ppm in 24 hours, up the dosage to 5ppm again, and start testing every 12 hours (but dosing every 24 stll).

What's the nitrate and pH? Sounds like a bit of a stall - reboot with a 100%water change....

I'm managing to keep the nitrate between 60 and 80ppm

ph has never dropped below 7.6 which is my tap water ph.

sounds like i could be dosing to regularly then if im doing every 15 to 16 hours.

Yep sounds like that to me. Dose once every 24 hours
