Hi all

I dont believe it, as Mr Meldrew would say. Got a Fluval Roma 200 last week and its been running now for 4 days. A couple of days ago I noticed water on the floor below the corners of the tank. Mopped it up and within 2 minutes there was more. It looks like the water in condensing on the inside of the tank at the top and running down the outside. There looks to be sealer all the way round the edge behind the plastic trim but there must be gaps in it.

What can I do. Is it best to take it back to the shop and get a different tank or is there an easy fix

Cheers

John

If it's a brand new tank, i'd take it back. I know other people with the same tank and i've never heard of that problem. I'd say it's a fault and should be replaced.

Yeh think I will, the shop says they will refund if i want. Just bloody annoying, now I have got to take all the gravel and plants out and start again

cheers

john

Yeah, that would be very annoying.

You should really check the tank thoroughly when just filled with water, before starting to set it up.

Sorry to hear your bad news mate.

BTT

yeah frustrating but it does happen from time to time, no manufacturing process is perfect.

Yup same thing happened with my new tank, the tank itself was watertight, but the 'condesation proof cover' was somehow letting the condensation get through and drip down the outside of the tank.
Aqua One were very good though and shipped me out a replacement tank :)

Usually it's just a case of running a stanley blade all the way around the seal on the lid, taking it off, cleaning it up, and re-sealing it, but that a lot of work you shouldn't have to be doing on a new tank.

When I buy a new tank I always look them over carefully. Quite often there are 5 or 6 in a shop that are "identical" but I find that some look like the person who put them together was a skilled craftsman and there are others that don't look nearly as good. I figure it is my money so I am not willing to just take the one off the top of the pile. So far I have never had to return one and I feel my skepticism has been part of the reason.

Hi all

Well th enews is that the tank, cabinet & everything has gone back. I have gone to another shop and bought a Jewul Vision 180. Much better quality. A lot of aggro but hopefully all is well now. The problem with the old tank couldnt have been foreseen. It was only after a couple of days when condensation had built up that the problem started. Looking at it, it seems a poor design. Oh well live & learn. New tank is up and running now. Just have to wait a week longer for my fish

John

Glad you got it sorted mate. Is it a fishless cycle now?

Wow John, you've got two really lucky things going for you: You've had this "problem" which has slowed you down and resulted in better equipment and somehow you've stumbled across this beginner forum which just might be the best place in the world for a beginner trying to start up in freshwater tropical fish (feeling humble about the forum this morning  )

It would be wonderful now if you gave pause and reviewed exactly what types of filter media are in the new filter that came with the new tank and reviewed how you think they are going to work. This is the next step in ideal start-up. I apologize if you are experienced and have already made all these choices based on a goal, but this being the beginners section, its just our habit to check!

You see, BTT's little one liner in the previous post, besides being a genuine expression of being glad you got the problem sorted, is probably a grin to the rest of us that now comes the hard part where we need to make you aware of what a true biofilter is and what it really takes to get this marvelous contraption of modern fishkeeping equipment prepared and up and going. A "biofilter" is a biological "machine" that is at the heart of good fishkeeping, its worth it to be sure you fully understand it before you run out and get fish.
