I have a soon-to-be empty tank, and am trying to decide what to put in it next (after I get the water right, of course).
15 U.S. gallons / 56.75 litres
24" L x 11" H x 14.5" W
61cm - 28cm - 36.85cm
I’m debating between 9 “jumbo” Neon Tetras, or brackish with a mix of 2 male Dalmatian Lyretail and 3 female Pearl Lyretail Mollies.
The issue of how much work is involved, isn’t a factor. I like both kinds of fish. I’m not sure if Neons need extra room, as Zebra Danios do, so that’s why I’m leaning more towards brackish. But Neons are my favorite, since they’re so colorful! The Neons wouldn’t be too cramped in there, would they?

the neons will be fine....the mollies can be kept in freshwater too. the m/f ratio is slightly off its 1 male for every 2-3 female and im not sure if a 15 gal is enough for that many fish considering they will breed.....unless you have few places for the fry to hide and you allow them to get eaten

I'd go with the mollies, they will add more colour if you get a variety and imo neons arent all that interesting in a tank by themselves

ya, Neon's look great in a huge school in a nicely planted tank IMO. Mollies are great. But if u really want Neon's get them! I Love them

neons need perfect water conditions. The water parms must be great before you concider them. They arnt very hardy and will die easily.

Mollies are great too but they do need some salt in their water. They CAN live without it but they wont live as long as if they have salt. They need a ratio o 1 male to two females.
