New Stocking Ideas?

Hi guys,
My tank is still cycling at the moment and I still can't make my mind up as to what fish to put in the tank when it's complete.
The fish that I think I want are:

6 panda or Pygmy Corries
6 cherry barbs
1 dwarf gourami 

As I understand my tank is around 24 us gallons so I'd be able to have 24 inch of fish.
Is there any other fish anybody can recommend? Something that will be readily available in most LFS.
Also is the list above ok ? Are the fish compatible?

3 sparkling gouramis 1 male 2 females
12 boraras brigittae

boraras brigittae? Never heard of them before. Are they popular in lots of stores and are they middle or top swimmers? Sorry for all the silly questions..

They are fairly common, if you have a good LFS then tey should stock them, they are mid-top swimmers

Would I be able to put a Betta in? Or is that a big fat no no?

Instead of the sparkling gouramis, yes. But if you decide to have them, then no.
