hi all. just moved into a new house so i am setting up me aqua 320 from scratch. normally i would but guppies in but cos they breed like rabbits i dont want it to get over run too quick. i also like siamese fighters and i know you can put them with guppies.

any ideas of what would go well with a siamesse. or what would look quite plessent and eye catching without mating to quick

i am quite fond of gourammi. i like tetras also but i would like something a bit different and eye catching

thanks all

it is 8 gallons

If you get a male siamese fighter you can't hold it with guppies I believe, because of the bright flashy tail fins on the guppies.
You can also not keep siamese fighters with gouramies and many tetras, sorry. I'm not sure if this applies to all siamese fighters but females should do okay.

If it's the tank brought up on my google search (lmao xD) it's 28 liters. I have no idea how to convert that, but they have one out at my LFS and by looking at it I'd say 7 or 8 gallons. Now, somone tell me how far off I am xD.

Most bettas do well with white cloud mountain minnows, but those are fish that like colder water. I din't know much about them--I know we kept my sisters betta with them, but the day we got her thermometer it was well over 100 degrees F so the thermometer went beserk and over heated and never worked..yes, sad story. (alright, done rambling.)

There is a list of tank mates that work with bettas under the sticky topics--on the betta FAQ thread. If the tank is the size I think it is, you should be okay with a betta and a few of the 'approved' tank mates.

If you decide to not go with a betta, I can't help you with much else. Maybe a group of one of the smaller tetra species, and a few pygmy corys.

I had considered the Aqua 320 for a betta, or a tank for harlequins and chocholate gourami.

Yup, Kame-San, it's 7 gallons. If you don't know the exact gallon, type "so and so litres to gallons" and you get the exact gallon.

lol, I'm good xD

Yeah, after I posted it I used the converter on my cell to see what it was xD I was just too lazy to come & edit my post. Actually, it's about 7.3G. :D

Depending on what you put in it, all tanks will have less water than they say. My 20G only has 16 gallons of water in it because of plants, gravel, etc. That tank would probably be close to 6G when filled, maybe a little more or less depending on what was put into it. :)

In that case, I'd go with just the betta. Or, scratch the betta and get a couple dwarf puffers.

Dwarf puffers  and snails!

Harlequins were good with the PK. He much preferred chasing the Brocha splendens.

why not siamese fighter ,(small) clown loaches and some rasboras or black neons.
or just one male fighter and make him the centre of attention

Yeah the last option is most likely the best. An ADF or an apple snail with live plants would work too.

The joke is that Puffers are killers more than Fighters. They kill everything. They especially like snails. I don't know this from experience, but wuv does. :hey:
