Hi again, an other what should I get thread from me again....

Tank is a Roma 240 so about 65 gallons with a Fluval FX5 so big filter. I have had a string of disasters with my fish recently and I am quickly loosing a lot of enthusiasm for the hobby at the moment. I want to stock my tank because it looks so big in the room but with nothing in it and I am just stumped as to what to get so really am just looking for ideas of anything at all.

At the moment the tank has
1 Aequidens Diadema (think blue acara but whiteish)
1 HRP (think peaceful convict)
1 L235
1 L135 - both plecs are medium sized.

Ive got a sand substrate and the fish need to be big enough to not be eaten. I would quite like some more cichlids but really stumped as for ideas, I really really really want a Severum and I think that would well and truly kick the hobby back in for me but I think my tank is too small for one. The other ones I am toying with are Threadfinned acaras, Eliotti or a lone G.Surinamensis

Also for catfish thinking of somekind of syno but not sure which one yet. Quite a lot I like so really CBA with trying to keep it biotope so feel free for any ideas for dithers as well.

Like I say anything over probs 3" and easy to find at that size either from LFS or classifieds etc as otherwise my hoover of an acara will just much them down overnight.

Yeah thought about the Sajica but a bit worried about cross breeding with my HRP if I ended up with a female.

I think you could possible get away with 1 Sev, they are rather slow growing so if isnt working you could upgrade or rehome but i would think 1 sev could be ok.

Your filter can easily cope so as long as you dont over crowd with other fish then i can see a single sev working...

no he couldnt get away with a sev a big filter doesnt make the tank bigger sevs are big chunky fish that require lots of space

have you considered a rainbow cichlid wills?

A school of Buenos Aires Tetra. They get to be 3" are hardy fast pretty.

Ive looked at rainbows, quite like them but dont know if they would be my first choice. Ive just had a rather weird dream about meeting neale monks in his fish shop and buying some leopard ctenopoma and a female nic from him....... so now Im off to research them because its quite interested me anyone know about them?

A female nic would actually link my HRP and acara quite nice I think, what do you think? Could a female work? Going to look up the leopards as well, quite interested in them. Might look at some of the other african antaboids as well

Also if I can get hold of some large ones, golden wonder killis might work well. But the only ones I have seen in LFS are all "snack" size

*update

just got back from an LFS, this was the LFS that I gave my trigon 350 to with all the fish etc for free and one of the guys remembered me!!

anyway we got talking and he gave me some free wood which is always a good thing for tanks and to make it even better he said come back while the boss is here and there might be some more credit etc so that was fantastically unexpected

though admittedly I did give them a lot of very nice stuff....

Also saw some cuckoo catfish in their show tank (might try and barter for them actually probs wont work but worth a try) but either way think they are on my tick list now

Going to open a thread on this subject to the general section as I am starting to move away from cichlids due to my tastes not being suitable for this tank and/or the price of those that are suitable.

Just got a nic today its quite young but fingers crossed that its a female quite a long story as to how they have come into my tank.
