I just came back with a eh-hem, Mystery Moss.   Went 45 minutes for a Java Moss and they only had a fern.   Nice of them to misspeak on the phone, huh?  Anyway, I'm looking at the bag and I see for sure a small snail.   This is going to end up in a 55 gallon tank.   Do I WANT snails in there?   Or do I want to soak this moss in chlorinated tap water to kill the snails?  Is this a personal preference, or should I really kill these snails?

bonus though----I got an extra java fern in with the handfuls of moss he drug out!!

Snails are fine to be in tanks as long as you can be sure they did ok at your lfs. Depending on what fish are in the tank they can eat the snails. I know for sure Yoyo loaches can do this.

Well, it's up to you. They're good little cleaners. As long as you don't overfeed the population shouldn't get too out of hand. I like them ^_^

These are dinky pond snails.   I picked them off.   I am sure I missed eggs, though.

Do check these pond snail don't munch on your plants!

If they do, then might be best to get rid of them or lose your plants!

Not all pond snails will munch on plants so keep an eye on that.

I prefer not to have the pond snails, I only want what I put in my tank.  I recently got some plants of craigslist, the person had tons of snails.  I put some tank water in a pan and swished everything, one plant at a time.  It' been 4 days, hope I got them all off.

I looked real close at them and they look like the plain pond snails, so I picked them off.  I am worried about eggs, but they are in my little tank.  If it gets that bad, I can easily redo it after moving the RCS out.   So as long as there were no eggs on the tiny annubis I put in the 55g, I'm all good.

Dunno if it'd help or not but their eggs feel like a clump of jelly. So move your hands over things and you may find them.
