New Person With A Question

how big to sev's get? i have got a 55G and some people say they will be ok, others don't...
55USG is too small for any type of Sev IMO, Rotkeils are a smaller variety and I wouldn't have one in that size tank long term...75USG I'd say as a min, more I'd say if you go for real biggies and more than one...

Hi
Thought I would give an update. It seems to have grown already and never stops eating, still has the black bars. Although they are all fading all apart from the back one which seems to be darkening and thickening.
I'm also starting to worry slightly as it never stops feasting on the mossballs in the tank, most of them are more moss mats now . That isn't the worry though, the worry is that it's belly is becoming rather big. Almost dropsy looking territory!. It's so bad that I haven't fed them for 2 days and as much as it is pooping, it still isn't going down
I have some young and extremely greedy Rotkeil's, I have cut back a little on the feeding now as they've been pampered too much, they always look soooo hungry

I'd just cut back and see if I were you....those Sev guts can get rather big and might take a while to normalise! You could try feeding a small amount of deshelled peas, they normally help fish to clean out their system well. Oh and don't expect any plants to survive, it might actually make sense taking any plants out that the Sev is keen on, they may be contributing to the bloat at a guess?

Severums love to eat plants then need some greens in their diet. So eatting the moss ball is no suprise. You might want to take them out. Then see if the belly goes down. If you don't have plants for them to eat make sure to feed them veggie flakes.

Personaly a 55 gal will be fine for a year or so. They grow fast but at 6-7" slow down big time. Mines is a year old male and is now 7" and slowly still growing. The 55 gL would be ok depending on what other mates you have.
