New Nano External Filter - First Impressions

Will do :good: Being lazy with my laptop on the sofa at the moment. Had to hack some bits of the aquarium lid out to accomodate the tubes for the filter. Still, looks better now. Still got some adjustments to make.

I did shorten the spray bar, by just under an inch. My little junior hacksaw made light work of it! (as it did with the aquarium lid!)

Would you believe it, theres already a snail in the filter! Thats the weird thing about the see-through canister, I saw the little bugger "running" (or whatever snails do) around.

Pics soon, promise!

I like my canister filters, little ones for nano tanks.
though i cant order online, and where would you find a good DIY canister filter design?(i tried google npot detaield enough instrucytions for me ot comprehend unfortunately)-->(sorry to hijack)
This canister filter seems pretty cool though xD

Heres a good DIY design for a small canister filter :D I saw this after I'd ordered mine. If I'd seen it before, I'd probably of tried it first :)

*edit* Forgot, not supposed to link to other forums. I'll PM it instead :)

Some pics!

Thanks :D

Filter is still running fine. Still a little noisey but its in the kitchen and I think I've gotten used to it now as I don't really notice it unless I'm standing and staring at the tank (as you do ;))

I'm not 100% sure if I'd recommend this import. Its a great size, and on a standard tank without all the plastic gubbins I have around the top of mine I think it would be very easy to fit, but after some jiggery pokery I managed to get it to fit (almost! Still working on it) and I'm happy enough. The noise might put some off, but its not that bad. Its not loud, its just a background noise really.

I wonder how it compares to the more expensive Eden 501 which I suppose its a copy of. The Eden is priced around the £30 mark, so I would assume its got better build quality, but I don't know.

Anyhow, as I say, I'm happy enough :)

cool glad your satisfied, i like the look/price of it however bit concerned with the noise you are reporting as i sleep in the same room as the tank i want a new external filter for :)

Might not be a good idea then, unless you're a heavy sleeper like me :D I can sleep through a lot of things, appart from some random clattering noise my CAE managed to make at 5.45am this morning! No idea what it was, no big stones moved or anything... stupid CAE!

Another alternative is the Eden 501 purchasable off the ebay or AE.

Although it looks very similar

Thats the one I've been reffering too for the £30 mark. Does look very similar though :)

lol... i just re-read your first post... i got distracted from reading that sentence by your lovely pictures :)

My Eden 501 only came with ceramic rings and sponge, no carbon media, not that I need it. It's pretty neat little filter. To me it runs fairly quiet, only a low buzzing noise. But IME internal filters are quieter.

Good to know :) I'd say mine is a low buzzing, with a slight grinding noise  Almost sounds like theres an air bubble in there, but I've shaken it repeatedly and no more air will come out.

Well, its been running on its own for a few days now, still cycling the tank but now using ammonia. I got lazy and sort of started again by removing the other filter, as it looked ugly :D It seems to have quietened down now which is cool.
