New Juwel Trigon 190

Hi guys.

I just recently bought a trigon 190 for my flat and am in the midst of cycling and such at the moment, however new tank syndrome has set in quite nicely and its like being in the clouds with all the milky water and such.

Ammonia is up around .5ppm and i have moved my fish elsewhere to let the filter do its work.

Now ive had a bit of an idea, my partner has a little 2' tank with around 20 guppies and such in it and the filter in there is a fluval 3 internal and it has been cycled for about 3 months now and the water is clear as class.

What i was thinking is, would i be able to steal one of the sponges out of the fluval, cut it in half to make it fit into the internal juwel filter in my trigon so that the bacteria will grow faster and get the tank cycled quicker etc?

Also would i be able to take the sponge out once it is cycled or will the bactera not have moved onto the other sponges etc?

I have that new cirax stuff in there too which is supposed to be a lot better.

Finally, should i just give all this up as a bad job and just go with an nicely powered external as i dop plan on keeping 5 - 6 discus when the tank has matured etc

if you put the media in a cycling tank it should help out a lot you would be adding a mature source of bacteria and it would just spread out over the whole filter till it was able to cope with what was needed. If your keeping big fish like discuss might be a good idea to add on an eternal

If you move a 1/3 of your filter materiel into your new tank you can move 1/3 of the fish into the new tank. Same bioload.

My father has a Fluval 304 external filter he may be interested in selling, would that be a good addition?
