New Home For My S.daemons

New tank set up (Juwel Vision 260) today for my two Satanoperca Daemons, Apophis and Osiris. Unfortunately had to move my Ocsar out and put him in a temporary 3ft tank for the last few weeks as after a few days with them, he started to get ansty with them.

Set it up with play sand, they were on small gravel, which obviously they much prefer, hoping after there 1st non starting attempt at breeding last week, the sand will be a better option for burial of their eggs (apparently thats what they do).

I've now, thankfully, been able to put my Oscar back in his tank (Juwel rio 300) not a moment too soon, he was getting very depressed in the smaller tank. So a new game, 'Where's Tigger?'

Stunning. I love you Geos! I find them fascinating fish.

Your Oscar is rather beautifull aswell. I notice your still running the internal on your Rio 300. Do you like it? I have cichlids too and albeit they don't poop as much as an Oscar i got rid of my internal on my Rio 180 as it just wasnt good enough.

Its temporary as I only had the one external left, which has gone on the Daemon tank, the juwel filter was originally ripped out and replaced with the external. Ordered a new eheim 2217+ this morning, so as soon as it arrives, I will take the media back out the internal, put it in the eheim and remove it again. I dont like the Juwel internals, however, I find them the best made tanks, so I always take them out.

Ahh rightio, makes sense.

Juwel are by far a quality built tank. I simply love them and would swear by them (except the internal)

Yeah I just wish they would cotton on to that and either a)provide a quality external or b) a decent internal. A. being the preferred of the two. They must realise by now that people just rip out the internal anyway, its not good enough for large fish and to dangerous (IME) with smaller fish. One day maybe.

Looking good hun I shall be resorting to the ol juwel internal propped up on stones later looks like I am ordering a new filter gotto wait till the car is sorted out though!! I hate the juwel internal to I still cant figure out how my frontosa ended up inside the silly things, Usefull back up in an emergancy though

Don't quite understand why you're all on such a downer about the Juwel internals.
The couple I've had have been great. Admittedly, there is the possibility of tiny fish getting trapped behind them, but I don't tend to keep tiny fish ! As a basic sponge-based internal filter, I think they seem to work very well.

Thanks Mark. I bought these two along with a 3rd about 3 weeks ago now, unfortunatley the 3rd one was a real mess, there is a thread on here about them, anyway he died 2 days later My original Daemons, I had four, I sold over a year ago, stupid I know, so when I found these ones, even though they were extremely expensive, I had to have them.

Ive had water quality problems with the juwel internals with large cichlids, they just cant cope with the mess and the water was never clear (not enough for my liking) and with smaller fish, lost plenty of neons and even found large fat corydoras inside the internals, I just dont like them, plus the space they take up is annoying. Ive no doubt with a reasonable sized fish community they probably work quite well, but Ive had too many problems with them.
