Greetings:

Yesterday I noticed a feather like growth white in color growing on the Intake pipe of the water filter. This growth waves around with the current as if it were a very fine leaf. The tank a 30 gal model is made up of the following: a gravel substrate, several artificial rocks, two large pieces of drift wood, (7) plants mostly ferns... and populated by (8) Neon Tetras. All the materials inside the tank are approved and sold by a reputable dealer. What is this stuff? will it be harmful to the fish and tank? if it is harmful, how do I eradicate it from the tank?

My only guess is a hydra. Does it look like this? Picture of hydra (this picture is zoomed in a LOT)

No! much broader. It looks like wide leaves fanned out if you will. It is very soft as it flows with the current like long hair in warm water. It seems to enjoy bonding on plastic... as the rocks and wood do not appear to have any growth on them. Smooth surfaces like the plastic on the filter intake tube and exit tube. It is also growing on the vertical air line feeding the horizontal air stone. Strange stuff it is... and it's annoying me not knowing what it is and what I should do about it before it becomes a real problem.
