New Gravel Safe?

I just bought some gravel at walmart.

I started washing it and I could smells like paint or petroleum
right now I have it soaking in warm water
is this safe for the fish??
I don't know if its better to return the gravel and get the more expensive one at my LFS

any comments will help

If it smells like that I wouldnt take the risk and using it I would take it back and get the more expensive stuff from the LFS.

take it back to wal-mart get a refund nd buy gravel from the LFS

Well you can grap sand cheap from certain lfs shop, i bought my white silico sand (4.5kg) for £6.50 and it has filled up my 4ft and pretty deep.

I bought a 50 pound bag of white play sand today for under 4 bucks at lowes.
