My female crowntail Skittles has had to be seperated tonight
She was in the big community tank with 7 adult guppies, 3 neons and 4 corys. Yesterday I noticed tears in the 2 male guppies tails, I thought it was them doing it to eachother but then tonight saw Skittles chasing after 1 of our male guppies and she bit one of the females! The neons didnt seem to bother her and the corys she was perfectly fine with but she just kept chasing after the guppies!
So we did let our 6 guppy fry out the breeder box to keep her in it over night hoping the fry would survive (they are just over 1cm long so hopefully all be there in the morning!)
But just went out to check and Skittles has jumped over breeder box and was back in terrorizing the guppys! So we have had to take her out and put her in the middle section of the tank where the filter and heater is for my 2 boys. Nowhere else for her to go now seeming its gone midnight! I have put a placemat over the middle section to stop her jumping out or a male jumping in, but both males seem rather excited and are up flaring at her! She likes the crowntail though lol and is staying near his side!
Grrr! Naughty Skittles lol!

Bettas commonly chase/attack guppies because of their tails. Guppies have tails very similar to bettas and the colorful tails provoke the betta just like the presence of another betta. You should seperate the betta and get her her own small tank.

Im really not surprised, sorry you have had to move her. P@H have small plastic tanks about £8

Thanks for that, Ill try and get there tomorrow.
Its a shame though, she seemed soooo laid back in there and it was nice seeing her swimming around in such a big space and she loved the air pump. Never mind, Ill try and make her new tank nice and girly for her if I can lol.
Do you think this means she wouldnt do well in a sorority tank???

It depends, som girls will and some wont, the only way to tell is to try. Those tanks dont have anything with them, but there are some other plastic ones with filters, i think you'd need a heater though.

Yea Im going to try and get cheap heater aswell if I can. Got some extra gravel somewhere will have to be rinsed through.
Hopefully wont be too much Ill just have to have a look around pets @ home see what they got.

You dont need to have the gravel. Not sure if P@H is the cheapest place but I know they do have the plastic tanks, not all the LFS's in bristol do. I had to get an emergency one as I dropped the one I was about to put my new girl in and cracked it!

Lol, typical then!
Well hopefully the one I go to will have it, otherwise they are bound to have those goldfish bowl thingys.
Might look in the trade it aswell they have a few good ones in there sometimes. Ill let you know tomorrow night what I managed to get hold of lol.

Why don't you set up a small sorority? 10 gallon tank, heavily planted, 5-6 females. I don't know what its like over by you, but here I can get a 10 gallon tank complete with lighted hood, 10-15 gallon power filter, submergable heater, net, and water conditioner just for $56.

I would like to but Im worried that as she was aggressive to the guppies she may not be suitable for a sorority. And then would need another tank again for her. Im not sure on the prices for a tank that size with everything aswell, Ill have to look around.

OK I was going to divide to put 2 boys in but don't think I will now. have got one divided but it is my 2 old boys and they are laid back anyway. one of my ct girls is really mean! :hyper:

Aww, I'm sorry you had to remove her from the tank, but at least you caught on to what was going on before any fish ended up dead.

Crowntails do have a reputation! Don't be too hard on her. If she were in a sorority she would try to be king of the hill as would most lady Betta, but she would have 5 or more lady Bettas to work it out with not a passel of guppys. She was doing what Betta do.
