New Fishy

So, this guy is a false siamese tiger? He will be ok in freshwater for the rest of his life? How big does he get?

No, its a Datnoids pulcher so its a true Siamese tiger fish but can still stay in FW for life.

aha ok. Is there any big difference between a true and false tiger fish?
Can they both live in freshwater? What about size?

Barely any difference at all. Couis microlepis is identified as having 5 to 7 thin dark vertical bands on its body and Datnoids pulcher has 3 wider dark vertical bands, these are not including the one through the eye or the tail. Datnoids pulcher is thought to get slightly bigger though both species are likely to top out at around 10 to 12 inches in captivity. Both fish are FW fish and can handle mildly brackish conditions.

The differences in pattern can be clearly seen on these two photos, the fish in the photo on the left is C.microlepis

Thanks for clearing that up CFC, was waiting for you to reply, i wasn't sure any more :S

Is my fella likely to be more agresive at all as i seem to remeber readnig the Microlepis is quite shy...??

last night at feed time he wouldn't let anyone inside the cove in the bogwood, even when the spotted dora came out his hole he got a few pecs!! then it was only the plecs that were left alone.

funny enough 2 of my fairly new small angels have disapeared aswell  might have to move him downstairs a bit sooner!

Ooo paul, I love your decorations. :p
