New Fishes Today!

So after having lost two rasboras in three weeks and having my water tested by both my lfs's and being perfect conditions, i have decided to add some new fishes. I was going to get cherry barbs but the shop that had them had white spot on the cherrys, so i chose to go with black phantom tetras. Some of them had red fins so i got all of those, eight in total. Been slowly introducing them to the tank. Let them sit in the bag for half an hour then added a bit of tank water to the bag about 10 minutes ago, will add more tank water in 20 minutes then let them sit for another 30 minutes and then let them free. My harlequins are very curious as to who is in the bag!

No casualties over night, and they seemed quite happy this morning. They seem to be sticking together though, I didnt know schooling or schoaling was one of their characteristics, but they could still be adapting to the tank.

From the research I have done on them, it looks as though I have ended up with 7 female and 1 male. Correct me if I am wrong, but the female BPT's have red fins on the bottom and the males have black, and a much taller/bigger top fin?

They're great fish, I'm always tempted to buy a group when I go to my LFS.

The females have the red tint to their fins and are usually a bit rounder and the males have larger fins. If you plan on breeding them keep us posted on how it goes.

Yes, so I definitly have 7 females and 1 male. Just wondering if that is a good mix or should I up the number of males? I do NOT intend on breeding them, but if it happens then I will deal with it. The guy at my LFS isnt the normal guy I speak to, he deals with reptiles usually and he said the red is just because they are juvenile, little did I know I got a group of females, and so did the guy that got served before me!!

Im thinking of adding two more males actually, I like to keep fish in even numbers, if I added 2 males, it would take them to 10. How would three males and 7 female be with each other attitude wise?

No of course it won't be a problem as it is. It won't be a problem with three males to seven females either. By having one male you're missing out on interesting behaviour. They're not aggressive to each other in the slightest, it's just displaying, so add a couple more.

Maybe I will get a few more males. Probably best let these settle in first though.
