After aabsolutely re-planting my tank and adding the bog wood i must say it looks brilliant! absolutely unbelieveable... could do with a few more grass plants but anyway...

when at work on sunday i finally got promoted from 'till girl' to fish house worker, so i can now work with the fish and make sure they go to good homes.

ANYWAY(again), wile looking round the tanks, i saw 2 ottos someone suggested, 3 khulis which i just wanted for the tank and 3 lone asian rummy nose tetras(small with orange noses) and i just bought them...

the khulis are SO happy with all the plants and bogwood to wiggle around in... and they love wiggling in the bushy plants too..

the tetras are getting more confident after being kinda intimidated by the betta... and none of their eyes are gone because they are simply too small to eat..

the 2 ottos swim around... suck on the plants and glass and are so cute

what you guys think of the combo...

my tetras are similar to this... but instead of a striped tail they have lil orange tips.

I noticed the same thing with my fish. Densely planted aquarium with bogwood and caves drastically changes the fishs' behavior. Just day after I first planted my aquarium, I noticed that my panic prone corys seemed lot more confident. It also seems to reduce the bettas' conspecific aggression as well. This is the reason why I now keep both of my tanks densely planted. Of course, now I have to worry about keeping the plants alive too

All the fish combo sounds good to me. Although I'm not sure what type of tetra you're referring to.

:) thanks for your comments.. these rummy noses i had never seen before we got em in. i have my bog wood in soak for my 10gal now, but i wont put it in til i get all my mollies homes as well as the tetras so i can get something new and not deal with their damn problems. i like them and everything but they are just too much to handle with all the babies!!!!

How big is the tank you put these new fishes? If you have space left I would recommend you to take few more of those tetras if you just can find them and few more of otos too. Both of them are shoaling fish so they would be much more audacious and happy in bigger shoal. They would also act much more naturally in bigger shoal. Plants and bogwood does massive betterment to their world already thought. Good work.

One thing could be better in your tank. I got the picture that you have also betta in this tank? Betta need still water because swimming in strong current is so back-braking for it (because for it's fins). Otos need strong current. You should investigate the exact species of your otos because O. affinis and O. flexilis need cooler water too. Other otos do fine in warmer water also that is needed by betta, if there is enought oxygen in the water.

I eagerly wait photo of your tank. Your tetras and otos sounds very beautiful combination in planted tank. :)

thapsus

It is 7gallon tank and the filter isnt too strong. my rummynoses seem fine but as you said i think i mite get 2-3 more. also 1 more otto. wat ya reckon... the temp of the tank is 26 degrees C

You'll be over-stocked but test your nitrAtes, it may be possible. Unless there are other fish besides the ones you bought? Then you realy shouldn't get any more fish for that tank.
