New Fish Treading Water

Hiya,
Been sick of looking at my half empty tank getting lower and lower stocked due to oldies giving up the ghost. So today I took a trip out to a really good fish shop that's always done me proud.

Picked up my numbers of Harlequin Rasboras and Platinums but also wanted to add a little more colour to the tank so got some Platy's, Swordtails and 2 Honey Gouramis (beautiful fish that I had overlooked until now).

I bobbed them all for a good 2 hours, slowly adding my own tank water to the bag, then getting rid of the majority of the water before popping them in so as not to add the shops water.

Everyone is doing great other than 1 Platy and 1 Swordatail. Since putting them in they are kinda just bobbing and treading water so that they aren't sucked into the filter. They are near the top of the tank and I haven't seen them swim much at all. Are they just getting used to the change of scenery?

I must say I am so happy with the Honey Gouramis, I have googled them before as they have been suggested to me but always thought nahhh boring. But they are stunning and so red in my tank! I don't know what sex they are but they aren't fighting or bothering the other fish.

Any help with the ones that seem to be finding it hard to take in is much appreciated xx

It hasn't even been a day, some fish take longer to settle than others. Turn the lights off if you haven't already and try not to peer in the tank too much. See how they are tomorrow.

Yeah I will do. On closer inspection of the swordtail, his fins and skin looks in pretty bad shape =\ I wanna say fluffy but it doesn't seem to explain it right. I've never seen fin rot as luckily none of my fish have suffered with it.

I have pimafix, melafix and white spot treatment in stock, would you suggest using any of these to help him at all? I was intending to do a water change tomorrow anyway do that might help him but don't know if it might be to do with him not being lively (though he seemed to be in the shop)

Fluffy would suggest fungus, so you could do a large water change and then start treating with an anti fungal med if you have one.

Melafix is anti fungal so I'll dose with that tonight as I can't do a water change until tomorrow then continue from there. I don't know if it's due to the fish being nipped in the shop and getting infected, or if it is fin rot. Would fin rot affect the fishes body aswell as the fins?

Fin rot is when the fins start to look like they're being nibbled away, really tatty. If the fish is in poor health he will probably look a bit shabby all over.

Dose tonight, do the wc tomorrow and start dosing again. Remove carbon if you've got it.

Nah I got rid of the carbon after being told there's no real need for it.

Yeah the poor thing does look a bit shabby and my Platy also has his back fin nipped so it will help him also hopefully. They move so fast in the shop I didn't notice!!

I'll do a 40% change tomorrow as I don't wanna upset the balance too much with just adding new fish but obviously wanna keep it clean and it's due a good one.

Update: woke up this morning to find the Swordtail dead =[ fished him out and I'm about to do a thorough water change. Platy is still hovering and not doin much but is hanging in there so fingers crossed.
