i bought a betta yesterday well my brother picked it up for me any way all was well till i noticed him being a bit lethargic today uponn closer inspection he seems to have a white fungus type substance growing on him, does ant one know what this could be he seems to be swimming around fine now but im sure, the fungus type substance is obviously not meant to be there can any one shed some light on this.

Hes in a 15 gallon mature tank, with medium plants, checked water chemisty and everything seems perfect any ideas i dont want him to die lol ive had him less than 24 hours. I have a feeling he was like this when i got him from the shop.

Can you get a photo? Will make it easier possibly to identify the exact problem. An antifungal med sounds like a good start

i tried to get a photo but it wouldnt show clear enough so wouldnt be any help, looking at his fins there seems to be some rot so yeah a fin rot treatment looks like a good start to treat him would he be better in a small tank as i only have one hes in with some shrimp and dwarf frogs or can i treat the entire tank.

Might be better to treat just him as the others arent poorly. Keep him in very clean warm water.

Does it look like cottony patches on him? does he have any open wounds? If it came on suddenly and there are no open wounds then its most likely colmunaris which is actually a bacterial infection and not a fungal infection at all. My suggestion would be to add aquarium salt to the water (1 tsp. per gallon) and treat him with both maracyn and maracyn 2 at the same time. Good luck!

yeah it does look like cottony patches of white stuff, no open wounds, i came home from work just now and found him dead at the bottom of the tank, unfortunetly one of my endlers has this same cottony patch on him now, ill have to go and get some treatment tommorow morning first thing to try and stop the rest of the fish dying.

Is a shame really ive had the tank months and months and not a single ill fish till i put the betta in.

Awww I'm sorry  Def sounds like colmunaris, add about 1/2 tsp of salt per gallon (cories don't handle salt well because of their lack of scales) and treat with maracyn 1 & 2 simultaneously. Good luck, hope they pull through :good:
