New Fish At Petsmart!

I'm using a one treatment med.. You only have to treat once, it stays in the water. Should take care of it. I left the temperature up, if I see another white spot,, then you do a second treatment. Should be good :good:

Learned my lesson after the 46g and I got aggressive medications. I basically have a pharmacy now.

Clout! Woot. Nothing else worked in my 46g until I bought that.

Says to put in carbon after the first treatment, but I wait a day or two. Carbon still removes it slowly enough to get it. I did a second treatment on the 46g because I knew how bad it was there. But the new fish only had one or two spots, and they are gone. So I don't plan to go so aggressive, unless I see another spot.

Someone on this forum showed me this on Friday medications I plan to order something there whenever I have some extra cash to treat ich. I already had to order something for hexamita. I just figured out that's what the apistos had.

Buying fish in Texas, apparently means keeping a pharmacy

The petsmart I work at is selling bolivian rams, roseline sharks, julii cories, some "glo tetras" which are just. well. black skirts with the weird color injection gene that the glofish have, and some peacock cichlids with a very long unpronouncable name. Amongst other common fishes.

See? And Kissfan was busting on the chain store fish.

Like I said, some of the employees are very knowledgable & some not so much. Some of the tanks look pristine while others have dead fish floating near the filter pickup.

I like my petsmart better then my lfs for buying fish. But I end up with sick ones from everywhere here.

All depends on the associates. I can't go too in depth, but the tank cleaning is usually done according to schedules, although we're allowed to clean them at any time, they usually don't unless they're told.

I'm just one of the few that cleans them when they're dirty, rather than only when I'm told.

IME generic chain stores are just like any LFS, some LFS's are bad, some are good, same goes for chain stores. Some are awful, some are pretty well cares for. The only difference is that aquarium stores tend to have more variety.

My first post said "You have bought quality fish from Petsmart? Everytime I look they have one or more dead fish that no employee even notices till I tell them." (Referring to my local stores)

My second post said "Well I gave my local store a shot today and it took me under a minute to find a dead fish. Location matters. I'm happy for those of you that have better stores because the prices are cheap." (Again referring to my local store)

FishFanatic04 said " Some of the fish I bought had white spots when I got home, and I had to treat overnight." (Ich right away)

Then you said " Some of the tanks look pristine while others have dead fish floating near the filter pickup." (All the tanks share the same water, a dead fish in any is polluting all)

How do you think they can afford to sell fish for one dollar? I'll repeat I'm happy for those of you who can buy fish there. I won't.

I hear you bro, I'm just saying I don't see dead fish at my local fish stores or I wouldn't buy there either. :good:

The local PetCo had an issue a while back & they had about a quarter of the tanks being treated for some strange fungal disease. At PetCo each wall, front & back, has it's own filter system while PetSmart has all their tanks on a single huge filtration system.

My petsmart has 3 filtration systems, one for tropical, one for cold water, and one for the feeder fish. All of them constantly change the water out by itself, and are all ran through 4 huge UV sterilizers that get changed out regularly. Any outbreak calls for a change in the sterilizers, as well as a low dose med treatment.

Believe me I wish I could buy from them. Instead I had to drive 50 miles roundtrip today to a trusted not so LFS! :good:

I still frequent the exotic fish-only stores just because they have a better variety & they're willing to order anything you want. You'll pay extra for it of course............

Still, $4.99 for 2.5 inch Bolivians that appear healthy is a great deal, especially with PetSmart's 14 day warranty. Those fish only stores that I mentioned charge more than double that per fish & their warranty is only 7 days.

The local fish only store will come in very handy when I want to purchase female Honey G's for my males.

True, and the place I go to were able to order me 6 Zebra Loaches. And they had an additional ventilation fan I wanted to add to my Coralife light canopy and a blue LED bubbler that I was looking for in stock.

this thread makes me want to buy 65 tiger barbs from petsmart because they would be cheap there and watch the little piranhas swarm over food ....but i ain't ridding of my archers just yet..

The warranty is why I buy there. The fish are sick in every store I have around here...I try hard to pick healthy ones. But 5 of my 6 apistos have died. 2 of them within the first week, and my lfs wouldn't do anything about it, but blame my water at first.
