New Fish Are Dead

Well 22L is roughly half of 38L so use roughly half of the recommended dosage.

when you work it out you need to use 1/2 ml respectivley for every 7.6l of water. 22 isn't roughly half of 28, it's 6 off, which is nearly as much as another ml out on your dosing. you should always be careful when dosing meds and work it out exactly. it's easy enough to do.

if you dose 5ml for every 38, then divide 38 by 5 and this is how many l for each ml. it's 7.6. then divide your tank size by 7.6 and it gives you exactly how many ml you need to use.

:)

That's true but if you don't have a graduated cyclinder with 1ml increments it's pretty much all guessing anyway. ;)

API products only have 1ml, 5ml, and 10ml increments in the measuring cap. To get 3ml you have to measure out 1ml three times and the margin of error will be increased defeating the whole purpose of trying to be accurate in the first place.

i do it with ferts and measure 1 ml 3 times over. also with a 5ml syringe, even if your just guessing, guessing closer to 3/5 instead of guessing 1/2 your still gonna be closer. :p

just depends what your dosing, some things are more harmful if you overdose than others and i don't always know what they are so i try to be and advise others to be accurate when dosing unless i know for definate that particular product is safe if you go a bit over. better safe than sorry, especially when it's someone else's fish. :)

I doubt the person who created this thread has a syringe let alone one used for dosing fish tanks. :p

when you buy products they pretty often come with a syringe, also plenty of people will just have a syringe in they're medicine cabinet or can get one from the chemists :p

yes i dont have a syringe lol.

So will it be ok to just use the cap ofo the product and just put 3 x 1ml of ammo lock and 6ml of stress zyme into the water. I guest this just adds direct to the tank and does not have to be mixed before hand.

yeah that's fine,

try and pick up a decent syringe when you can, you'll find it invaluable in fishkeeping :D

I will add the stuff when i get home tonight,

Once added is there anything else that i need to do or do i need to add anymore in a few days time.

Everyone has been a great help on here

follow the instructions on the bottle's for how long and often you should dose.

type them up and post them here if your not sure and i'll take a look.

then keep testing your water until your levels are looking OK. :D

Well heres what the insurctions say,

Ammo Lock:
Add 5ml per 38L of aquarium water. Continue to add AMMO-Lock every 2 days until ammonia is not detected. If, after 7days, ammonia is still present, perform a partial water change, service your biological filter and reduce feeding.

Stress Zyme:
Shake Well. New Aquarums first, use STRESS COAT (Which I have done) to remove chlorine, Next on the 1st, 7th and 14th Days add 10ml of STRESS Zyme per 38L of aquarium water,
Thereafter and for exisiting aquariums: To maintain good water quality & healthy biological filtration, add 5ml of Stress Zyme per 28L of water weekly

What water test kits are good to buy so i can test the water

Had a quick skim through, has anyone mentioned to you that neons are generally not a good starter fish? I have found serveral people including myself with the experience that neons did not survive in a new tank. They prefer tanks of at least 6months lifespan. Someone here will probably contest it, but IMO when you go to restock steer clear of them if you want a lower mortality rate. Jo xx

No one had told me this in the shop so i am writing a letter to the HQ. Anyway i have added the treatment to the water and will see how it go's

Do i still feed the fish twice a day

Chris

I have been reading on the forum about carbon filters removing products that people use to cure fish problemes. What does this mean as i have just added my water treatment. Will my water treatment get removed to

Chris

Can anyone answer the above question and also do i need to add anymore treatment in a few days or not

Chris

by the time carbon removes the water treatmant the water is already safe for fish.

dont need anymore treatmant.
can you say what kind of treatment you are using?

Whereabouts are you in Leicestershire Chris?

I have a mature filter sponge you could have - but I'm in Nottingham :D

If you want to cycle your tank fast and easy, its called Bio Spira but only certin pet shops carry it. It cycles yoru tank right away. I've done it on several of my first tanks, worked wounders and is not hard to use becasue you cant overdose on it. But if you already started with a fish cycle you probly should just keep but its another out if you want to try it.
