hi all, this is my first post. i would like some help in choosing a new filter for my tank ive been thinking about either the fluval 306 or the eheim pro 3 350, and would like to hear from any one whos got either to tell me the pros and cons like how loud they are and how easy the maintenace is. any advice would be appriciated many thanks lee.

Hi.. I run a fluval 306 and i think its brilliant. there are a few different attachments and its pretty quiet. :)

hi thanks for the reply there seems to be alot of information out there with eheim fans saying that the quality of the filtration is poor have you found this to true in any way, many thanks lee

I have the 305 and the flow is pretty good. I thought that the build quality is average at best though.

Ive got a fluval 205, and the older 204, not had any problems with them on my 190L corner tank. The fluval 204, is bit of a sod to get going, but never really had any problem with ethier. I cant compare them, as ive never had any others.

That's the thing, I started with a 205 and thought it was the bees knees, but then when comparing them to tetratec, hydor and even aps to a certain extent you realise that they're nothing special.

thanks for all the info people. im starting to think the fluval 306 is going to be the way to go as with all the looking ive been doing on the internet the eheim pro 3 has problems with leaking and poor customer service. something to do with the head unit, though they say if you buy one after 2011 the probs been fixed someone on another site brought one this year and that started to leak within a couple of months and hes having problems getting it replaced even though they give a 3 year guarantee. so if anyone has any other makes to recomened i would appriciate all the info you could spare many thanks lee.

As in most threads about filters, you will hear from fans on many different sides who love their filters. I love the Rena XP series that I am familiar with but Eheim and Fluval both also have good reputations, I just have no experience with them. In my opinion, most of the major brands of filters are probably much alike in reliability and function but any real world person has only so much experience with different brands. I run 26 tanks but only about half have an external filter on them and I have always gone back to the Renas because I had some experience with them and knew what to expect. I did buy a C series stainless steel Marineland filter which seems to be identical to the EX700 that is available in the UK and I find some minor differences in maintenance practices that are required between it and my Renas but I judge it about equal to my Renas in function and ease of maintenance.
