I got a new filter today, the eheim classic 2215 for my 55 gallon tank. It's been running for a couple of hours and I have noticed some of my mollys at the top of the aquarium gasping for air. The gourami's also seem to be taking more air at the top than usual. I am using co2 so I dont want to airate but at the same time I dont want the fish to be unable to breathe. Any suggestions as to what I should do?

my stats are:
amonia: 0
nitrites: 0
nitrates 40
ph: 6.6

Thanks in advance.

the logical solution to this is to allow more oxygen into the water. the new filter is not creating enough surface movement or something therefore there is a lack of oxygen. if i where you, i would encourage more water movement, even though some CO2 will be lost into the atmosphere... its really a matter of priorities here, whether you prefer your plants or your fish! :D

i put the airpumps back in over night! i'll see how they do in the morning :good:

You said you put the new filter on your tank but have you cycled your filter if you havent have you still got the old one running on the tank if not there is your answer.
