Hi
I'm thinking of getting a bigger external filter and i'm looking for one with about 1000ltr an hour to turnover my 125ltr tank.
Is this a bit overkill?
The filter i was looking at is a Ehiem pro 3. I also wanted to know can you adjust the flow on these filters?
Is there any other makes i should look at
Many Thanks

An 8X turnover rate is fairly high compared to usual needs. If you are going with a high tech planted tank, that much flow might be indicated though.

I saw somewhere that a 10x turnover is prettty much ok so I'm not sure now

A 10X is a typical high tech planted number, not a fish number. Some of my tanks run on air driven sponge filters that I seriously doubt exceed 1X turnover rates. They are very healthy tanks for my fish. On the other hand, a heavily planted tank like this one needs a bit more flow to avoid stagnant areas that tend to develop algae.
