Hi all, on sunday i have a new tank coming (62 gal). I was wondering if i put the sponges from my smaller internal filter into my new filter would this help build up the bacteria in my new filter? Old filter is an elite for a 12 gal tank. Many thanks

are all the fish being supported by your small filter being transferred to the new tank? if so id recommend doing that as the bacteria can already support your fish youv all ready got

Yes. At the mo Im not going to introduce new fish for a couple of months as i want to make sure my current fish settle in ok.

yer it will be fine... just dont want to leaving fish without a filter in one tank and setting up another but if your moving the fish to its recomended because the filter can already support there bio-load

Thankyou mike advise well taken. Im still in very early stages of learn so finding this site and people like yourself very helpful.

How long would i need to leave the old sponges in the new filter?

No reason to take them out really mate. :) Place them closer to the bottom of the filter also. :)

Ok minnt cheers. Carnt wait for new tank. Got big ideas.
