New Filter Advice

Hi everyone

I'm new here and have been learning a lot simply by reading through the various threads on this forum. And I'm wondering if I can drawn upon your wealth of knowledge to garner some advice on filtration.

I purchased a tetratec ex 600 and to my dismay it has virtually no power when it comes to sucking up the water from my tank. I have followed the guidelines to the letter taken apart and reassemble in an attempt to see whether there was some fault but to no avail. The filter still has less power than my gravel cleaner.

I tested the filter a few times by adding a minuscule piece of paper towel (and I mean minuscule)next to the filter intake which is submerged in my tank and the filter did not have enough power to draw it in.


So my question is from your experience which filter has the best suction and is also the quietest?

the filter is rated 600ltr/h, with all the media in it its gonna be about 440ltr/h, it won't feel that much is being filtered at that. If you put your finger over the outlet pipe can you feel it running through?

I am running a fishless cycle (add and wait method) so no tropicals as yet. I have 100L aquarium

I can feel water coming out of the outlet pipe/spray bar but the suction/inlet bar has no power at all. I even brought friends around to get their opinions and the verdict is the same. It has no power and therefore wont adequately do the job properly (if it cant manage the tiniest piece of towel paper then fish poop?

Filters aren't for collecting the fish poop, that's what water changes and substrate vacuuming is for.

But I had a juwel internal before in a 70L and this had some suction. The tetratec does not have any/far less than what it should be.

Recommendations of a any other decent filters with a good intake would be so very much appreciated...
