I bought a male dwarf gourami, Comet. I put him in the ten gallon I had from the guppies. I left it running so I could restock it. Comet is being very shy, nervous and now very zippy. Is this normal?
My new guy is like that too, as long as you don't get close enough to the tank that he can notice you, you can watch some interesting stuff that they dp lol. Mines very new too, and if i move to fast close to the tank, or turn on the lights and bang a bit, he runs for cover lol, I've only had him 2 days, and already hes getting better though...I guess its normal of them
Try a few flakes, mine happily gobbled them up
At the petsmart where I work they have 5 of these males. I picked Comet because he had the most personality. Im actually suprised at myself for buying a gourami
He is a cutie! Good job! As for other fish, most community fish will work I think. I have cory cats and whiteskirt tetras in with mine and there haven't been any problems. If I were starting from scratch though, I'd do a small group of cories, and either a small school of serpae tetras or black neons, or maybe even rummy nose tetras. (I think I may eventually trade in my whiteskirts for something else.)
Edit: I'd say he absolutely is a male. And so handsome!
