Hi everyone,

I bought two Apisto Agassizi dwarf cichlids, I think i've got a male and female (they are different colours, one lighter)from the local fs where I bought my tank etc. They said they would be compatible with the rest of my community fishies - platys, guppys, dwarf gourami, neon tetras.

I have read that they do not like flake food and prefer a diet of frozen / live food. How do i make sure that they get the food intended for them and not get eaten by their tank buddies? The are mouching around the bottom mostly and like to be around the plants or in a hollowed out log ornament.

Next question, will the two be ok together?

Thanks

Don't just feed live food, make sure you feed a well balanced diet of all kinds. Feeding a complete food such as Tetra Prima will ensure you Apisto's get some as it sinks after a second or two. Then feed frozen food once or twice a week.

Hi what size is the tank?

They should be okay with those other fish but the Guppies might not be 100% ideal. Though since the Apistos are down low and the Guppies up top it will probably be fine.

Apistos ideally do best as 1 male with a few females - depending on tank size usually 2 or 3 females.

They could well take flake food - I would not be surprised as it is pretty common for most small fish to take flake, though frozen blood worm always goes down a treat.

Dont worry about taking into decor and substrate into consideration the inch per gallon rule etc etc is not accurate enough to need to.

110 liters is fine for your stocking I would maybe think about getting an other female as they do do best in hareem type set ups other wise single females get pestered by the males too much and it can cause issues.

Thanks, Wills

And would the additional femails have to be Agassizi or could they be a different dwarf type? The lfs had litte yellow ones which seemed to have red near the eye? Would these be ok? Sorry, I cannot remember what the name was.

No I would stick to Agassizi so you dont get cross breeding.

Yeah me too, much better to have pure breds.

Wills have a look at the convict thread and give your opinion please.
