only had them a day or so now but some of the tails look a little frayed and split do you think this could jst be stress and settling in?? its not all of them but most and are hovering at top of tank, water stats still fine

What temp are they at? What is the hardness of your water? Are you running an air pump? At higher tempretures the water doesn't hold the oxygen as well! Or it could just be a little bit of fighting establishing territories maybe? (sleeping areas) I found this on a site,
Water conditions for general keeping should have a pH of 5.8-7.4 with 6.3-6.9 an
optimum for most varieties. Water hardness is just as important as pH in your tank. A kH of 1-6 and gH of 2-11 are good levels to keep your tank at. The fish may live in harder water, but for long term they need soft to medium water to thrive and stay happy.

temp is 30 and there is an air pump and stats are ok i think ph is 6.8 atm

do you have any pics mate, lets just make sure this aint nothing serious , there is a good chance it was the caused in the tranport of the fish with the netting or jumping in the bags but a pic would help make sure it isnt serious

Personally, i would automatically drop the temperature to 27 deg C, the discus may not have ever been kept in such warm conditions, unless they are spawning, my discus hate being over 27 deg c.

I would also automatically do a small water change, it seems to solve water problems but to me,discus near surface is usually water quality or temperature, you tried with a different test kit/get someone else to test it too? Doesnt take much for one test kit to be faulty... What are your readings for amonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph?

i cross checked all my water stats with the water i bought them from at the lfs, also i made sure the temp was the same as theres 30 degrees, the water has been cycling since last november as i wanted it correct ive checked and checked every other day for the last few weeks to make sure it was correct, going to do a small water change today, i think it is just stress they seem fine 2 day back at the bottom and swimming. !!fingers crossed!! will take sum pics

I have found that with my discus 27 degrees is the best for my discus.Try dropping the temp slightly.

i could try that but surely when they were bred in 30 degrees and stayed in the same 30 degrees since they were born then they will be best kept in that temp?

here are the pics some are okay some are bad the discus are near the bottom of the album

http://s896.photobucket.com/albums/ac169/AoDTyphy/Fish%20tank/

i noticed the discus are all crowded around the heater not right at top gasping or anything, the larger ones seem to be hanging around the centre but some of the tails seem a little torn n going white but no fungus or anything

adding more pics to album

My discus are at 28 degrees and live with a razor back musk turtle, they are not as peaceful as people make out.

generally discus lives @ 30 degree Celsius...i saw your pictures, your aquarium decoration is superb but i think some of your discus are stunned...try to feed them properly..

i dont think there stunted they were only born in january? and they been fed beef heart n prima sucne were born, think some of it is stress tbh they are looking alot more confident nw there all at the front so maybe things are looking up, thanks for comments about the tank ive just trimemd everything back so plants looking a little rough but shud take again soon

edit: maybe they look a little stunted as there fins were down when swimming away from me very fast wi camera haha
