Hi all,

My 40 USG tank is hopefully nearing the end of it's fishless cycling. I've got a sand substrate with a selection of rocks as decor. I would like a few plants just to brighten things up a bit and show off the fish at their best. I've tied a small piece of Java Fern onto a rock, and will do the same onto a very small sliver of bogwood.

What other plants could I have? I've read the pinned posts, and they mention Anubias (which I like anyway) and the fern I've already got in there. On another site one of the articles mentioned using Cryptocoryne family plants - will these be OK? Ideally I wanted to secure the plants to rocks to minimise the problem of uprooting by the fish.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

I'll post a pic if I can tonight....

well it all sounds like ur doing really ell acually.

do you have any caves?
if so. might want ot try to work in a few in the tank. or make a could. these fish like to run and hide.
also the caves will help for breeding. :hyper:

what kind of chiclid do u plan on stocking it with?

well good luck!

Here's a pic - sorry about the quality. Couldn't find the digicam.... had to use my phone.

Planning to put in more rocks and make lots and lots of small caves. There are already a few caves and tunnels.

Not sure of stocking yet. Looking for less aggressive (only 40 gallons) species - open to suggestions. Would also like a catfish if possible. Recommendations?

Thanks,

Irf.

This is a perfect species or two smaller groups tank: Have a look at cookie cutter setups on Cichlid-forum, for the ideas. You could have Yellow Lab species tank, or possibly into some more complex combinations. As for your catfish: Sydontis Multi, Ancistrus Sp., and pretty well any pleco under 8" is a possibility.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was looking at making this tank nicely populated without being overcrowded. I did think about the Yellow Labs, but it would be nice to have a couple more types if possible.....

I will certainly remember your suggestions for catfish.... just what I was looking for!
