I got a really pretty turquise vt betta but he dont look too good. OK I got him from pets at home or pestsmart or whatever it is called. He was really lively when I first got him, a bit too lively but now he is just sitting on the water line. His water stats are ok, temp ok but he looks really sad and his colour has faded...just cross fingers job I think. I dunno whether to let him have a look at the betta next door to see if it will perk him up. What do you think? :S

Pets at Home (I saw a bichir in one today, very cheap too) - there's no petsmart in Northamptom (or in England for that matter as far as I know).

Is he alone and what do you mean by 'his water stats are fine' exactly? If he was alright before it sounds like something's shocked him.

I wouldn't stress him by showing him his neighbour personaly.

he is acting scared I have moved his tank so perhaps that is what it is. I am just leaving him in the quiet. I did a 50% water change but all the others are ok so his water should be.

This might be a stupid question but did you remember to use a decholinizor? And did you aclimate him?

Again, not trying to start anything, just trying to help =)

Yes I did that...I dont mind you asking I dont take offence easily! Going to put some clean water in another container and leave it overnight might do another half water change...not sure....havent fed him but might try some bloodworms in a while. :good:

Just looked at him and I think he is dead. I hate it when they do that for no apparent reason..I am my own worse enemy I get bettas from shops that I know dont look after them and then this happens.

Oh Liz, I am sorry. :( Don't beat yourself up over it, he was probably sick when you got him.

He wasnt acting sick..I got him 4 days ago when I was away....brought him home and set tank up floated him etc. etc. he was such a pretty colour as well......2 deaths in 2 weeks makes you want to give up sometime doesnt it! I mixed up a bucket of water and treated it cleaned another one out using same water perhaps he didnt like Northampton water. other one is ok.

Sorry about your fish, always sad when you lose one. Early days probably, but they have some beautiful Bettas at Maidenhead Aquatics, Harlestone. I brought two from there the other day and they are beautiful and healthy fish. I've brought pretty much all of my fish from there and had no problems. Staff are always friendly and helpful too.

Never seen any at Harlestone, my sister lives in Duston so I go there quite a bit. My last 2 I got from just outside town, 2 cts and they were only £2.50 each. Can you remember what colours they were at Harlestone? Might have to ring them up tomorrow!

Various colours: dark blue, black/grey with silver tail, red, light blue. There were 7 fighters left when I popped up on Thursday so you should be in luck. I think they're £4.50 each but well worth the money. Failing that pop up to the one at Wooton, they had two in there. One was a pinky colour and I can't remember the colour of the other one. You're in luck, I wanted to take all of them home but I have 3 already and can't get another one for a few weeks :(

That happened to me last spring. I got two young VTs. Posted their picks. They were great. Looked good. Got yum-yums. But about a week or so later they both just dropped dead! They never looked sick until they died. Handsome, healthy one day, dying, dead the next. I was so ashamed.

My new red boys are probably their cousins. One was totally all deep red like these.

:good: Thanks Sue.. I really think it was the water in this area, as he was new and some of these aquatic shops keep them in such treated water. I have had tropical from this shop in the past and had no luck with them either.
