Hello fellow fish keepers

I went abroad to Egypt many years ago and I brought home a nice piece of coral which was laying on the beach (I have since read that I probably shouldn’t have taken it home – whoops)

Would it be ok to put in a tropical tank? Not sure if it would contain any harmful particles (and/or whether I need to treat it before hand)

Many thanks! :hyper:

Its technically a calcium carbonate rock now... as the polyps (creatures which are part of the symbiosis of coral) would have died when it was washed up on the beach, so could treat it as any other rock you are going to put in you tank. e.g. boil it, soak it... sorted.

Just be careful, it could alter your water chemistry. It can raise your pH and up the hardness. If you have soft water fish, it could become a problem.

Thanks all :fun:

... I just put it in my suitcase .... Easy :hyper:
