Oh dear god...I started fishkeeping so many years ago that having two flourescent tubes was high tech!!! Hope it works well for you dude!

Slightly off topic, but could I ask what slate (if it is?) you have in your tank? Got some bogwood coming, and was looking for slate to finish the tank off :)

It is just ornamental slate from a Garden Centre, you can buy pieces for pennies. Then just glue them together with aquarium silicone.

You can use most stone from garden centres, its much cheaper than LFS rock. Just do a fizz test on it before introducing it to the tank.

Thanks for the pictures Tom. I also like the look of that slate, so I might just pop down the the local garden centre at lunchtime today and pick some up myself. What is this fizz test?

the thing is, you'll have to start to up the dosing now you've gone high tech or you'll loose the plants. You may have to start to introduce more nitrate and phosphate, the micros will be needed more so.

BTW a 2kg FE will on average only do about 4 months ish.

Have you got a drop checker in there?

That co2 bottle is at least three times as heavy as a full 2kg FE & all the internal space is filled with gas unlike a FE which also houses the pressure bottle.
