Hi,

I've recently acquired a 25 litre (5.5 UK gallon/6.5 US gallon) tank which I'd like to keep a single male betta in.

Question is...do I need a small filter for a tank this size, or would frequent water changes be enough? (I have a small enough heater, and the tank did come with a small filter) - I'm assuming that a filter would be best, but would just like to double check, as some sites say you do, others say not necessary.

Thanks
Kim :)

Id say you should def use a filter. Doing massive water changes isnt a good way of maintaining the good bacteria etc in the tank. Also the shock of doing big changes can affect the fish. If you have a filter then either make sure the power head end is agasint the glass or dull it down somehow. I really like the Stingray filters for Betta tanks as you can aim the powerhead anywhere u like.

That's great - assumed it would be best (& can use some established filter pads that I've already got). Fantastic idea about angling the powerhead against the glass (would never of thought of that - duh). Will check out the Stingray's too.

Big thanks
