hello all
Right here goes, yesterday i went out and bought my first male betta, he is very pretty :good: , i already have a community tank, so i bought him a 24liter of his own, its got a small filter plants and hiding places. the tank was cycled before he went in by the way :D , when reading up about them i read that as long as your house is warm enough there is no need for a heater. So my house being the sweat box that its i didnt think he would need one.
well he went in yesterday afternoon, and i must say hes not looking a very happy bunny, the temp which i am keeping a eye on is 22, is he too cold i read that they become very slow when cold, or is it just that he needs a little longer to settle in, he has ate a little blood worm this afternoon, didnt feed him at all yesterday.

maybe im just stressing over nothing (which im good at by the way)

PLEASE put my mind at rest for me x

They should be between 24 and 30 degrees celcuis really.....you could get a little 50W heater from somewhere to stabilise your temp a little higher?

Thankyou for your reply. Right thats what i will do then, the tank is plastic though, will a small heater be ok in there, not like its going to be getting real hot though to melt it, so i was thinking it should be ok.

Yeah, the heater would help. But also he may need a couple of days to settle in. Some bettas are very quick to adapt to their new home, but some won't eat for a week, it depends on the fish really. So get the heater, keep an eye on him and keep us posted.

...and some pics would be nice too...lol

my heater for all my bettas is 28 too keep them at a nice temp....
this is fine in a plastic tank.. i also worried about it! :(
but its good!
as long as he doesnt show signs of illness hell be fine,
:hyper:

well i will be getting the heater as soon as possible, just want the little feller to be happy :good:
he seems ok just very shy at the moment.

he should warm up fine :) generally the higher the temp fish are kept at, the faster they metabolise, so higher temps mean shorter life spans....but it's all down to personal preference. My tank is kept at 25 degrees and my betta has never had a problem with that! :good:

thankyou all for your fast replys, looks like i wont be able to get a heater till weekend, will just have to keep the house toasty warm till them just to make sure the temp dont drop anymore.
Still working on the pic though he is very shy
maybe once i manage to get the pic, u guys can help me out with a name ;)
