Ok, I wrote a whole bunch and will sum it up....Sarah *my boyfriend's youngest sister* wanted me to have her goldfish Cheeky *a bubble eye* because she 'doesn't have time for him', but turns out her mother griped about how she doesn't clean up the bathtub after she cleans the tank out.
Yesterday my last goldfish Eddie died, and I was left with Cheeky, frustrated that he'd be next for sure. *I think the tank was contaminated w/ 'germies'* Well, to my very good luck, Sarah decided she wanted Cheeky back *supposedly her mother missed him, and her too*

Sarah felt bad and said she'd buy me a couple fish tonight. I told her NO goldies....if anything, a female betta...and if no female bettas were available, then a male. *Fabio still has some finrot, but we're working on that. He's a good boy.* :flex: She also got me a 'lid' for my gallon bowl * one of the plastic thingers you put in a vase for that awful lilly plant thing*, and a 'betta water garden' *has the flower and lilly pad*
I guess there were just 3 girls to choose from....and Lolita is the girl she got me...she has a small hole in her fin, but that is easily taken care of....what concerns me is that she is quite 'plump' I'm not sure if she's constipated badly, has dropsy, or is full of eggs. I have 3 pictures, 2 are in the cup *she was a walmart baby*, and the other is in the bowl, which is a gallon.
I do want to make clear, that I would like to get her a hex tank at least, but that will probably be this weekend, I do not intend to keep her in a bowl, as I like to know what temp she's at and have a light for heat if I must.

She's very active, clear eyes, no pineconing, she doesn't have any gold specks or anything....all it is is that hole-y fin and the very large 'belly'.
If it would happen to be dropsy, I can't get to a petco or wherever until this Friday *Bill and I will be up in Lacrosse visiting my dad in the hospital*
I've put some stress coat in, chlor-out in aged water, and 3 drops of Melafix. I did not put salt in just in case she was constipated or had dropsy.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated. I have not fed her tonight, probably won't tomorrow, maybe feed some pea on Friday.

Doesn't look like dropsy to me... maybe consipation or maybe just a big, big recent feed...

She's very cute, either way. :)

Looks like she's fat with eggs. :)

Don't cut her feed, but offer her a thawed and lightly cooked, then shelled frozen pea for food. If she is constipated, then that'll remedy the problem. If she's not...well, it's good for them regardless. I REALLY think she's just fat with eggs, though, especially since her ovipositor is quite extended at the moment.

Alrighty!
I always gave Fatima and Fabio peas at least once a week. With the 'chaos' of my cosmetology licensing exams last week, it slipped my mind. They did get some yesterday tho.
I'll feed Lolita a pea tomorrow morning then. *I have some in the freezer ;) *

I was hoping it wasn't dropsy, and I'm thankful it isn't...Sarah would've been very saddened then as well. She tried so hard to pick out a good girl for me *I guess one had a 'fin' missing, I'm thinking a vent. fin (I'm up very late, can't think to spell), and the other, I'm not sure of.*

I was thinking maybe it was eggs, but Fatima has never gotten that big since I've had her. So for that, I wasn't sure.

One more ? then ;) I know I've read it here before, but if she is indeed, full of eggs, will she just drop them on her own or will she 'absorb' them back into herself, so to say. I will not play amiture breeder, I know a bit better than that  :)

But thank you both: Kiarra and SPLiSH for your posts :) Now I can go to bed a little less worried

She is adorable!

Looks like my girl whom occassionally gets fat with eggs just... because she can

I'm glad you don't intend to breed her, just because she's fat with eggs. Speaks very well of you.

Most females drop them all by themselves. Some retain them and never seem to get any thinner, but it also never seems to harm them any. Very few ever have problems with dropping their eggs, though it has been known to happen.

Seahorse- Thank you  Your girly sounds like a doll!

Kiarra- Thanks :) In theory, I know quite a bit about fish, but have no interest in breeding. Heck, I don't even have the room for a 10 gallon tank or anything! Even if I did, I still wouldn't. I've had an awful track-record of fish-keeping lately *well, with my goldies, my bettas are fine thank goodness* and wouldn't want to do anything more to have more fishy deaths. -_- I love my babies just as is, and forever virgins they will be! :D
I did feed some pea this morning, had to give Fatima a wee bit as she saw me and got all huffy :fun: Lolita ate her pea very nicely, and went back to pick up some crumbles of it off the rocks
I have a lil' extra money I will get her a bigger home this weekend.

daudy_dojo- LoL! I had an outdoor 'farm' cat named Cleo *we don't farm at the homestead, we farm at my grandpa's, which I think is technically ours now.. -_- * She was so pretty, big eyes, cute shaped head...very good mama cat. She had 2 brothers named Casinova and Nepolian.

Here's a few updated pics of Lolita...darn hard for me to get good ones of her in the dang bowl. :p
