New Angels

Well I just bought 3 new baby angels for my tank and am quarantining them in my 5 gallon first. My question is how long should I quarantine them for?

Since you have fish in the tank you're going to move them to, you should quarantine them for around four weeks and make sure you keep an eye on them when you add them.

If they happen to pair off, then you might want to consider another tank in case you're interested in breeding...

I'm not sure if they will pair off just yet... they are only 1.5-2 inches long. But do you really have to quarantine for a MONTH? Seems a little long. I thought the only point of quarantine was to make sure the fish was not sick, so I was thinking more along the lines of a week or so... keeping 3 angels, no matter how small in a 5 gallon tank for a month may compromise their health and I don't want to do that. And yes I have bred angels before and it was a lot of fun. I'm hoping it will happen again.

They don't show visible signs right away. The 4 weeks is a precaution so you don't lose all your stock. They could have internal parasites or the like that don't show up until you add them to the other tank.

If they are tank raised, there are lower chances of this, but like I said, it's worth it to save money and stock.

I quar fish from unknown sources for a month. A few breeders that I know real well I will only quar for a couple of weeks. Can never be too safe.

with a clean and filtrated q-tank i don't see why... its always better to be safe than sorry - especially when it comes to fish.

One is almost white, one is almost black and one is in between. Now the black one is dying because of an injury I guess.. his left pectoral fin is floppy and not working and he is really stressed out and moving sideways and upside down. I removed him and put him in a bowl and now he's just lying on his side. I will return to the store and demand for my money back, for goodness sakes it's only been a day. The other ones seem fine at least.

i got 3 new angels yesterday, but they are not veil cuz they didnt have any. i will get some soon though. i have one all black angel, one chocolate, one gold and blushing one. they are all doing fine, mainly cuz i bought them from a good fish store n they are bred in local waters not from other places, the store also fed them well: frozen brine shrimp in the morning, flakes at night. sry for ur lost does ur lfs that u bought the angels from have some sort of guarantee. for example petco has a 14 day guarente.

I feel so bad for you David, that's how I lost my very first angel (of the 6 I got last week too) It's such a sad thing to watch. I ended up losing all 6 of them the same way from Saturday to the next Sunday They were all fine, then lethargic, then weak, then too weak to even get untangled from the plants. It was a very sad thing to watch, especially when it happened in the span of less than 12hrs.

When you take this angel back, ask them how long they've had them and what to do if the others start showing signs of being ill as well.

i lost 6 angels in 1week when i bought them from petco cuz they were cheap compared to the ones i usually buy which are $5.95 ea for a juvy dime size angel.i bought the 6 for $3.99 ea n they were like quarter size.but i found out that i bought angels that they had recieved that same day. n they all died within a week. i stoped buying angels from petco.

With angels I suppose it all depends on where you buy them, how tough they are and how long the LFS has them before they sell them to you. They have to acclimatize well or they have no chance. Right now the sick one is lying on it's nose . The other two are still fine (thank GOD).

Well, I just lost the little guy. At least it was a peaceful death. He wasn't hemorrhaging or anything, just quietly laying on the bottom and he gradually lapsed out. I'm taking the body back tomorrow for a refund.
