i am going to build a new tank in the very near future, its going to be a planted affair, i was wondering if anyone knew the best type of filter, i was looking at the fluval fx5, or multiple emperor type hang ons. ive only had internals before, and dont really like them :/

We're going to need rather a bit more info than that my friend, how big is the tank? What sort of planted tank will it be? How much are you willing to spend?

4ft by 2ft wide by 18inch deep, i was looking at eco complete substrate, with java moss, java ferns, and some other low light plants, the tank will house my clown loache, betta, gouramis, tetras and angel. i would also like to get rid of the air stone, and add another one or two types of tetras

I make that a whopping 70ish G? I cant say Ive ever had fluval filter but most of the good brands should work find provided you get one rated for the sixe of the tank.. Ehiem, rena, etc all do good externals. You could alos get to small filters so they at as a back up for each other and if you get them rate say for a 40 or 50g (giving a total of 80 or 90g) then you'll be able to over filter the tank which is alwyas a good thing in my books.

bugger, the site i was on to do the working out showed me it was 90 gallons, although i dint know if that was us or uk gallons im in the uk so i took it for granted it was uk
