I am planning to setup my 55gal bowfront aquarium as an african mbuna tank. I will be using cichlid eco-complete and plan to decorate the tank with either granite or slate. As with african cichlids overstocking is a must due to agression please could you offer some stocking guides based on:

Pseudotropheus zebra (MUST HAVE)

Any suggestions are fine as I don't know very much about the species of african cichlids, please include quantities.

Basically if you were setting up a 55 gallon bow front with a Pseudotropheus zebra as your only choice of fish up to now, what would you go for in terms of quantities and other species.

Thanks

I'm fairly new to african cichlids but ive done alot of research recently. Most people could go with 1m-3f ratio so the aggression could be spread out from all the females. The more females the better. Also i dont know what kind of fish you like so ill post the fish im putting in my tank.
Labidochromis caeruleus(yellow lab, really nice)
Melanochromis johannii(electric blue johanni, nice blue color)
Labidochromis sp. "Mbamba"(yellow top, my persnal fav)
Search these up and see if you like em. Anyway hopes this helps

Any chance of a pic of the pseudotropheus zebra? It's a common "scientific" name that retailers will give to just about any striped species. Try google images and you'll see pictures of a wide variety of fish. Without knowing the exact species it will be difficult to give good suggestions.

Yeah i agree with the mod right there ^

ive found flavus marked up as zebra.. its a shame

as far as your tank goes i recommend staying away from most cichlids in the melanachromis genus, they tend to be more aggressive especialy chipokae and auratus and i realy think with the more aggressive ones youd need a larger tank so you can have more to distribute aggression.

but other than that i reccomend

pseudotropheus lombardi
pseudotropheus elongatus mpanga
labidachromis caruleus
pseudotropheus crabro
pseudotropheus socolofi
pseudotropheus demasoni

thease are realy just a few of my personal favourites
good luck ... (Y)
