I am new to the fish thing. I have been patient and taken the time to correctly set up my tank. I have let it cycle for a couple weeks. I bought 1 Gourami. I have had him in the tank about 4 days and he seemed to be doing fine and still is. I wanted an Angel Fish and that has been my primary goal and two fish stores said I could incorporate the two. So now I have 1 Gourami and 1 Angel fish in the tank and they are both about 2 inches as of now. I know eventually they will get up to 6 inches. The Gourami likes to chase the angel fish off and on. I think the angel fish is fine, he is the same size and really does not seem to stressed out. Although I am hoping that this will settle down. I like both of the fish and I realize I will not be getting more of their kind. I am hoping I can get 2-3 more fish in the tank, for a total of 4-5. Is there any recommendations on what I can get with these two fish, and any advice on how to deal with these two. I now realize that I should not have put them together, but I took the word of the people who sold the fish.... -.-.......... any help or advice would be hugely appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! You came to the right place.
Firstly how did you cycle your tank?
What are your water stats?
Perhaps you could go for some bottom dwellers like cory cats or a bristlenose pleco, why not both?

Ya we have cycled the tank, and the levels are all pretty good, we bought a nice testing kit and everything is falling in place were it should, finally... ammonia was a bit high but I managed to bring that down were it should be. The two fish I have in there now seem to be doing great, and it seems the angel fish and gourami are actually starting to get a long. When can I add bottom feeders in? I have had the Gourami in for 5 days now and the angel fish in for 2 days. Should I wait a couple weeks before adding a bottom feeder? Thanks for your help. I was thinking of the rainbow fin shark, it is a bottom dweller, the pet store said it would be fine with them, but they also said the gourami and angel fish would be fine hahaha

Josh, you didn't really answer Snake's question.

It sounds to me as though you didn't cycle the filter correctly. It sounds like you just set the tank up, and ran it for a few days without fish. This does nothing to cycle the filter, in other words, to grow 2 colonies of bacteria which will process the ammonia, via nitrite, to nitrate. That takes longer than "a couple weeks". If you HAD cycled fully, you wouldn't have seen any ammonia levels at all.

Can you post current ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels, please? Also, could you advise what size tank you have (both volume and dimensions).

If my fears are proved correct, I wouldn't advise adding further fish to your tank for a couple of months or so. But if you can give me that extra information that I asked for, then I and others will be able to give you a bit more detailed advice.

EDIT:- Durrrrrr, I just read the thread title, so that's one question you don't need to worry about!

Sorry to post my own question in your thread Josh, but since it relates to you....

Did someone say Angelfish and Gourami are not compatible....I have not seen that anywhere and was looking forward to that combination in my community tank?
