New 160L Malawi Tank

LFS's here are asking £8 - £10 per lab.

Any reason you didn't take the fish home with you last night?

Short answer - My tank isn't ready.

I am waiting on delivery of a heater for the tank, the filter media is being kept mature in the external filter on my community tank so once it arrives I should be about good to go :good:

Hi guy's, just an update, I now have the tank up and running with fish in. I have 6 labs, 5 hongi (they are juvi's and I cant sex them yet) and the 2 cobalt blue (Can't sex them either but that's another story) All seem to be doing well. I've been keeping an eye on my water stats as it's a new tank (with mature filter media) and all is well about a week on.

I won't be keeping all the fish once they pair up etc, I'll be reducing to maybe 3-4 labs, 3 hongi and 3-4 cobalts (if I can find a couple more).

I'm also upgrading to a fluval 405 external filter so I can overstock a bit.

one interesting article I found online was this:

I was surprised to read that a recommendation for a mbuna tank slightly smaller than mine include demasoni - 1 male\4 female. Surely this isn't a good idea? I had considered them but excluded them due to their agressive nature.

A case of bad advice from professionals perhaps?

As I have said previously, that's probably not a good idea.
For 1, demasoni are very difficult to sex. Males and females look identical.
And also apparently (never had experience myself as I was always advised not too), one shouldn't have them in groups smaller than 10. The more the better.
